Double or Nothing: Basic Strategy

There are a lot of game selections and several different formats to choose from when deciding on what poker game to play online. I personally enjoy playing cash ring games but when I decide to grind it out playing Sit n Go’s I try to pick a game that I am good at and a game that gives me great odds of placing in the money.

I would like to suggest a game that is some what new to many poker sites and in fact is not available at every site. The best formatted game I have found is on Poker Stars. It allows me the best bang for my buck and while I am not going to get rich overnight, the game play is so slow that it allows me to play multiple games at one time increasing my ROI/ hr. (Return on Investment per hour). The game is called NLHE “Double or Nothing” and is offered at all skill levels from $1.15 buy- ins to $104 buy-ins.

The return is not the greatest, at just under 100% of your buy in for winning, but considering it is only a 10 person Sit n Go the odds of placing in the money are very favorable and it makes the game very lucrative. The way it works is; 10 players sit at one table and play until there are 5 players remaining. Once the table has been limited to 5 all players remaining win. In the event 2 or more players are knocked out making it so that 4 or less players remain the player(s) with the most chips out of those that were eliminated is/ are awarded the last few and final spot(s) and payouts(s). The final 5 are all rewarded the same payout. For example; $1.15 buy- in would win $2 and $104 buy-in would win $200. Not a bad payday considering all you have to do is outlast 5 other players. In order to be successful in this format you will need to finish in the money approximately 6 out of 10 games.

The game seems to attract pretty tight players with usually 1 to 2 maniacs. I have found that if I play a notch looser than my opponents and still play aggressive that I can steal enough blinds and small pots to stay in the hunt until it gets down to the shorter play. Then I can use the short play to my advantage to earn a payout. In the event you catch some of the maniacs early and double up or even triple up you can usually sit back and wait for the payday.

Best of luck

BD.

I suggest either PokerStars or Cake Poker for sites to play this game at.
